Poolesville Baptist Church does a significant amount of outreach. Below are activities and organizations in the local community that we partner with to serve those in need. Each of these organizations have ongoing volunteer opportunities for individuals or groups. Click on the name of the organization to be taken to their website to learn more and set up an opportunity for your family or group of friends to serve.

Free Food Distribution

PBC is blessed to receive food from a variety of sources – restaurants, caterers, stores, etc.  As God provides these resources, we seek to make them available to folks in Poolesville.  Typically you’ll find someone from the church making this available on Saturday mornings from 11AM-12PM.  Other special opportunities are shared through email and Facebook.  If you have a food shortage or other need that we might be able to assist with, please contact office@poolesvillebaptist.com.

Adventures in Art Camp

Our God is a creative and artistic God. Being made in His image, we can be creative as well. Adventures in Art Camp is a week where students will get to express their artistic inclinations in a variety of different classes, while also learning from God’s word what it means to live out His image in His world.

The Friendly Thrift Shop

The Friendly Thrift Shop in Poolesville has been in operation since 1972 to meet the clothing needs of Western Upper Montgomery County.  Eleven area churches each appoint a representative member to the Thrift Shop Board; these members conduct sales on a rotating basis.  The Friendly Thrift Shop is open for donations and shopping Wednesday 2pm-8pm, Thursday 10am -4pm, Friday 2pm-8pm, and Saturday 10am-4pm.

Western Upper Montgomery County Help, Inc.

WUMCO’s (Western Upper Montgomery County Help, Inc.) mission is to provide quick and friendly assistance to needy persons in Western Upper Montgomery County (Poolesville, Barnesville, Beallsville, Boyds, Dickerson, and surrounding areas) in times of crisis with rent or mortgage payments, utilities, medical or other current critical expenses; transportation for medical and social service needs; long-term coverage of maintenance medicine not adequately covered by insurance, either government or private; emergency and holiday food and holiday toys.

Hands of Love Mission

Hands of Love Mission, a local nonprofit group consisting of a dozen volunteers, loaded and shipped more than a million pounds of supplies last year to people living in the poorest regions of the world.  The supplies included everything for the house and home, from baby seats to sofas.  Some donations that came from Frederick County ended up in Frederick County. But most were sent to Honduras, Kenya, Haiti, Guatemala, Kosovo and towns in Appalachia where adult illiteracy is 40 percent.

Helping Hands Poolesville, Inc.

Helping Hands Poolesville, Inc. is a Christian volunteer organization whose members are called to help those in need by improving lives, homes, and communities. Helping Hands Poolesville provides services to individuals, families, and also to organizations which share our commitment to assisting the less fortunate dwelling in the midst of our society of abundance. Poolesville Baptist Church supports this ministry in their annual partnership with Rebuilding Together to provide home repairs to qualified homeowners, and invite you to contact Helping Hands Poolesville, Inc to see how you can support them, as well.

Truth and Hope Outreach

Truth and Hope outreach is a sewing ministry to the poor both nearby (Oklahoma flood victims) and as far away as Uganda, South Africa, Bosnia, Kenya, Jordan and Honduras. In the last year this ladies ministry has supplied over 300 handmade bags, baby blankets, hats, bed comforters, and clothing items for those in need.  Some of these places that receive these gifts are ministering under somewhat normal situations but others are ministering to babies with fetal alcohol syndrome, some others have been abandoned in fields to die. Several of the ladies from our church help in this ministry and we are proud to support this outreach in the name of Jesus.

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief is managed by the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware and the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. This disaster response group, in cooperation with our Red Cross partner, provides a hot meal (Southern Baptist Disaster Relief cooks it; Red Cross delivers it) to folks impacted by a storm or displaced by an incident. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief also helps begin the recovery process by cutting up down trees, providing remediation to flooded homes and patching roofs or windows damaged by a storm.  While this is underway, trained Chaplains provide a “ministry of presences” to those affected.  Behind the scenes, our Maryland Logistics group provides Administration, Assessment, Communications, Laundry, and Showers resources as needed to an event or incident.

We exist to show who Jesus really is and to help everyone find their hope and delight in him.
